How Anitta’s fans used Spotify’s algorithm to put “Envolver” at number one on the world charts.

There has been a lot of talk about Anitta in recent weeks because she is the first Brazilian artist and also a Latin American to reach 1st place in the world charts with a solo song in Spanish.Attract” was launched in November last year with a focus on the Latin American market, but has just begun cunning – as they call it on Twitter – at the end of February.

The song began to rise in daily streams on Spotify after several of the singer’s videos went viral on TikTok and Twitter. In the video, Anitta reproduces the choreography featured in the Envolver video during performances she gave in Brazil. It was then that this little dance became “Anitta’s step” or Anita step“, as it became known abroad.

In a matter of days, the song was already among 50 most popular of all Latin American countries where Spotify is present. While the music in these countries was growing day by day, in Brazil the music was not yet of interest to the Brazilians.

On its release day in November, Envolver debuted at number 1. #23 between 50 most popular in Brazil with 517 118 reproductions and had an average performance, for some time being among the 100 most played in the country.

Only on March 12 the song entered the Top 50 most popular songs in the worldin position #48 with 1,461,708 reproductions. Of this total, only 322,649 unique reproductions were produced exclusively in Brazil, representing Only 22% of the total number of times the song was played that day.

After the great international response that this song had, the number of reproductions coming from Brazil also began to increase and consequently lift the song up the world charts, causing Envolver to rise to new positions. March 19 the song was ranked among the 10 most popular songs in the world for the first timeabove 2.5 million plays.

Continuation after commercial

It was then that the Brazilians began a national mobilization to put the Envolver at the top of the parade. If you opened up social media that day, that was all that was said. And finally, on March 24, it happened. Involver has become the most played song in the world with over 6.4 million plays.

Part of the success of “Envolver” can be attributed to fans who, seeing the music growing organically in other countries, began to use the resources to increase the song’s total streams. This tactic is very common and is used by many fans of different artists around the world such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and BTS.

To increase the number of songs on the platform, you need to do a few things. If you simply turn on the repeat feature and let the music play while you’re doing something else, Spotify’s algorithm understands that these plays are automated or robotic, and deducts this amount from the official play total, which is updated daily.

To avoid this, Anitta’s fans have discovered several ways to avoid being detected by the algorithm, namely:

  • Don’t play the same song in a row, alternate it with others;
  • Playing a song only 20 times per account, moreover, the algorithm also understands that it is a robot;
  • Create more than one Spotify account and make 20 more plays;

From a digital marketing standpoint, there is nothing wrong with fans doing it. If an artist has people willing to do it, it just shows how strong they are. Spotify needs to understand that these numbers are legit and come from people who listen to the song even thousands of times.

Currently, Envolver is still in the top 10 most played songs on the platform. At the time of writing, the song was at number 8 on the chart with 2.6 million plays. Of these, only 576 thousand are from Brazil.

Today Anitta releases her fifth studio album titled “versions of me”, with songs in English, Spanish and Portuguese with elements of pop, funk and reggaeton.
