Confirming rumors of mass production and future commercialization, Tesla already selling Model Y – currently only for employees – and a version for customers outside the company will be available in the coming weeks. The Model Y version on sale is a standard-range AWD variant that uses 4,680 cells and offers a range of 449 kilometers with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about five seconds. The current price is about 60 thousand dollars, which gives something like 280 thousand reais.

The aforementioned cells are twice the size of Tesla’s existing ones and five times the capacity, allowing the company to expand its lineup of vehicles and use fewer batteries to maintain them – which means lower costs.

In the new Model Y, they are implemented in a structural battery, which reduces complexity and weight and improves efficiency.

While the new battery technology represents an important step forward for the car, it may take some time for it to reach the average consumer and all Tesla electric vehicles. However, this should help keep prices under control.

Elon Musk announced the possible mass production of the Model Y in early April.

Model Y’s massive market launch is nothing new to those who followed Tesla’s news last week. At the opening of the new plant last Thursday (8), the CEO of the company, Elon muskannounced the resumption of production of taxi robots and, at the same time, the intention to produce a car on campus.

With mass production, which should be about 500,000 units per year, and with an eye on market competition, prices may come down. Selling prices currently start at $53,940 for the Long Range model and $58,940 for the high-spec model. In direct translation into real, this would give something between 251 and 275 thousand. Despite this, official import prices in Brazil range from 600,000 to 640,000. The Model Y is known as Tesla’s best-selling potential vehicle, and the company’s decision is not unusual.
