The billionaire also turned down an offer to join Twitter’s board of directors earlier this week after he disclosed his stake in the company. According to analysts, the reason is that it will prevent the entrepreneur from owning more than 14.9% of the company.

In a letter to the company, Musk said that if the offer is not accepted, he will “reconsider” his position as a shareholder.

“Since I made my investment, I have realized that the company will neither prosper nor live up to this social imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be taken private.”“, he wrote in a letter addressed to the chairman of the board of the network, Bret Taylor. This is my best offer and last offer“.

According to Reuters, Twitter will consider Musk’s proposal, taking into account recommendations from Goldman Sachs & Co and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Following the release of the news, the company’s shares rose 12%, while Tesla’s shares fell about 1%. The total value of the deal was calculated based on 763.58 million shares outstanding, according to Refinitiv.

Criticism never stops

Elon Musk considers himself an absolute supporter of free speech and is critical of the social media platform and their policies. He recently conducted a poll on Twitter asking users if they think the platform is up to the principle of freedom of expression. He even thought about creating his own social network.

Continuation after commercial

More recently, he opened a poll to see if netizens would like to be able to edit tweets. A few days later, the social network confirmed that it would add the option. The novelty is at the testing stage and is currently only available on Twitter Blue, an additional service with some additional tools available to subscribers.
