What Universe it is full of mysteries and many of them are not expected to be solved by mankind anytime soon, everyone knows. However, very System Solar, where we are inserted, there are still phenomena that scientists do not know how to explain. One of them is Saturn and mysterious spots that appear seasonally on their rings. Lately the telescope Hubble captured them and proved that this is the beginning of the next “season” of manifestations of the phenomenon.

In the latest pictures, you can see strange elements on the left side of their rings visible by the equipment, which vary in size, color and shade depending on the angle from which the photo was taken. This event occurs as the planet approaches the equinox and was first seen by a mission in the early 1980s. travelerfrom NASA.

“This is a magical and fascinating trick of nature that we have only seen on Saturn, at least for now,” he said. Amy Simonfrom an American agency and program host Legacy of Hubble’s Outer Planet Atmosphere (OPAL).

The phenomenon may be similar to the “spectacle” of the Earth

Scientists still don’t have an exact answer as to why these spots appear, but there is a strong theory that they are rays formed by Saturn’s magnetic field.

The rings of the star in question are made up of fragments of ice and space rocks that interact with the solar wind, a common occurrence between planets and the star. Upon contact with the stream emitted by the Sun, the environment is charged with electricity. As a result, ring particles rise above the surface and form rays – the spots noticed by Hubble.

The process is similar to that which creates Aurora boreal in the Earth’s polar regions, when charged particles reach the atmosphere and become visible in a “show” of lights in the sky.

As Saturn reaches its equinox, that is, when the sun’s rays fall directly on the planet’s equator, this event occurs more often, becomes more distinct for observation, gradually disappearing until the summer or winter solstice. Like our planet, Saturn is tilted on its axis and therefore has seasons throughout the year, but, unlike this place, they do not last several months, but more than seven years each.

There, the closest equinox in question is the northern hemisphere autumnal equinox, scheduled for May 6, 2025. Until that day comes, researchers will have enough time, materials and technology to further study this fascinating mystery of our “neighbor”. ‘with rings.
