The right step towards a shortage: there will be less fake motor oil in Russia
None of the segments close to the automotive market is exposed to waves of counterfeiting and counterfeiting on such a large scale as motor oils. According to participants and active players, more than half of the lubricants on store shelves are made underground. Gas stations, official dealers and ordinary drivers were threatened, so they solved the problem, albeit not very quickly, but at the state level.

The mass exodus of official suppliers, the blocking of stocks and the breaking of existing agreements led to the massive appearance on the domestic market of a large number of “left” motor lubricants. Moreover, many sellers do not even know that they sell counterfeit products: the compositions purchased in Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan under the guise of parallel imports turned out to be fakes, brought there from Russia and only then returned to us under the guise of a “company “. The turnover of counterfeits has reached such a high level that the state has been involved in solving the problem.

The result was the motor oil labeling announced on SPIEF-2023 in the image and likeness of many products. For the buyer, the “sticker” is a sure guarantee of the purchase of exactly the product indicated on the label, but for business the situation is somewhat worse. First, labeling will somehow lead to a deficiency, at least in the beginning. Some types of packaging may be missing. And second, the number of checks will increase, which, despite the president’s demand, continue to give merchants nightmares everywhere. Moreover, both violent offenders and completely law-abiding affairs. Excuses on the ground are a trademark of Russia.

For a simple motorist, this news means exactly one thing: if not today, then tomorrow there may be a shortage of a “consumable”, which is so necessary for the operation of a car, such as engine oil. In addition, marking will automatically lead to a price increase – new equipment, employee salaries and other overheads will be “covered” by the buyer.

And the number of offers of “gray imports” will clearly decrease, which will be completely and completely obscured. Simply put, your favorite motor oils can no longer be bought in stores, so you have to rely on private sellers over free classifieds sites. The alternative is domestic formulations, which, frankly, have long been inferior to many imported counterparts or proven purchase channels. For example, at the usual gas station, where barrel oil can often be bought “for bottling”.
