The ban on fuel exports from Russia, introduced by the government on September 21, helped saturate the domestic market, said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who oversees the fuel and energy complex. According to him, these actions led to a drop in gasoline and diesel prices in 81 regions.

As TASS reports, during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak spoke about the measures taken to stabilize the situation in the fuel industry. “On September 21, the government introduced a temporary ban on the export of petrol and diesel; the measure taken has proven its effectiveness. The restrictions helped saturate the domestic market, which had a positive impact on prices,” he said.

Adding details to these statements, the cost of gasoline and diesel on the St. Petersburg Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange fell by 16 and 21%, respectively. At the same time, diesel prices in small wholesale stores and at oil depots fell by an average of 6,300 rubles per tonne, and in the country as a whole by about 8%. Novak also clarified that fuel prices have fallen in almost all constituent entities of the Russian Federation, namely in 81 regions.
