Vladimir Putin explained why sales of Chinese cars are growing in Russia
The “automotive” revelations about GDP to the “heavenly” journalists, given to them during a recent visit to his new friend Xi Jinping, were, as it seems to the experts of the AvtoVzglyad portal, not addressed to the residents of the People’s Republic of China. , but for our high-ranking fellow citizens. And we’ve taken the liberty of speculating about what this not-so-explicit message might be.

In his interview with a representative of the China Media Corporation, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke very complimentarily about the products of the Chinese automotive industry and literally said the following:

– Yesterday I spoke to a number of people who can safely be called car enthusiasts with enormous, long experience. And very sincerely, not knowing that today we would have an interview with you, my interlocutors told me that Chinese cars are establishing themselves in our market not only because there are fewer others, and not only for this reason. Their quality improves. The quality of Chinese cars is getting better and better, which is why our consumers like to focus on the products of Chinese manufacturers, especially in terms of price-quality ratio…

What’s good about the Chinese?

It is clear that aides preparing presidential meetings simply do not have the right to grossly screw up, so Vladimir Putin’s words are clearly verified and absolutely accurate. Indeed, Chinese cars are settling in Russia with all the comforts of home. According to the Autostat agency, in September this year they occupied 53% of the Russian market.

At the same time, analysts from an authoritative source even slightly underestimate the figures, for example, not quite rightly excluding cars under the Moskvich brand from the list of “heavenly” brands and for some reason classifying them as domestic, despite the fact that The ears of JAC are visible here for a mile and a half. Domestic brands, according to the same Autostat, are still satisfied with 34% of the market.

It has been absolutely rightly noted that the quality of Chinese vehicles has grown – dare I say it – unimaginably in recent years. In the mid-2010s, driving local auto industry products was akin to being a test pilot. Today, a significant part of cars with the logos of our southeastern neighbors can compete on equal terms with the “Europeans”, “Japanese” and “Koreans”, with the possible exception of two real premium brands that are still out of reach.

Hidden message

However, it would be naive to believe that there is no deeper thought behind the diplomatic tact shown by Vladimir Vladimirovich towards the Chinese journalist. It is unlikely that a person who has devoted many years of his life to defending the sovereignty of Russia can actively and directly rejoice at the dominance of foreign manufacturers in domestic car dealerships. It seems his thought was completely different.

Our President called on civil servants to switch to domestic cars and referred to the experience of India. It is likely that in this case he stabbed those who needed it in the face (and they probably got the hint) with a transparent hint, which showed where the key to success lies. The Russian automotive industry can grow only if we are seriously concerned about the quality of products, which is impossible without the introduction of modern technologies.

There is safety in numbers

Putin recently spoke directly about this – at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. His words are quoted by TASS:

– We are developing our automotive industry and thank God that we are developing more and more on our own basis, increasing localization. Yes, Moskvich will be produced and Lada will be developed. We have to do this on our own basis…

It is clear that without government support it is impossible for enterprises to bear such a burden. The President made it clear that he is aware of this problem and is ready to provide centralized assistance to those who want to work. He even proposed a new instrument to activate the activities of domestic manufacturers. As Vedomosti writes, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin proposed “launching a fundamentally new instrument: industrial mortgages. We are talking about preferential long-term loans at an interest rate of 5% per year. Companies looking to purchase turnkey manufacturing space are eligible for such loans. I ask the government to work out all the details with the Russian banking sector without delay so that industrial mortgages can start to fully operate in the near future.”

The only problem is that someone in the field is not a warrior, even if it is Vladimir Putin personally. Russian economists and financiers in power are concerned about completely different concerns, far removed from the problems of the country’s reindustrialization, about which the AvtoVzglyad portal has repeatedly, but in vain, written.
