Assembly plants in the Kaluga region plan to return to testing mode in December this year. And regional authorities expect to switch to mass production of cars as early as 2024.

According to Interfax, during public hearings on the budget of the Kaluga region, the region’s deputy governor Vladimir Popov said that the region’s automotive industry plans to resume work in the medium term. “Currently, I would like to note that out of thirty companies in the automotive cluster, eight of us are inactive. Moreover, almost all of them have the prospect of renewal and restart,” the official emphasized, without naming specific locations.

Popov predicts that by the end of 2024, the automotive industry could account for around 7% of the region’s total production.

Let us remind you that car factories of Volkswagen, Volvo, PSMA Rus and car parts manufacturers operated in the Kaluga region. They have been standing still since 2022.
