What are you, Fraer: BMW in Russia has decided not to be like Mercedes
The epic exodus of Mercedes-Benz from Russia should take its place in the pages of the textbook: in a few years, students will be told in detail how not to do it. In the meantime, his loyal customers will pay for the manufacturer’s politicization. However, not all German car makers wanted to step on such a large-scale rake.

Standing on a hill of thrown stones, we have been observing for a month the exodus of car manufacturers from the Russian market: Moskvich has risen from the dead at the Renault plant, Nissan’s St. Wonderful are your works, Lord.

However, the gold medal of this race, without any alternative, is taken by Mercedes: the most respected car brand in Russia has failed not only dealers and the factory, but also all its leading, serious and hard customers. Yes, the great uncles, who looked at the world through the sight of a three-pointed star, can no longer maintain their gelding and wait six months for spare parts. Here’s the deal!

While some spat in the pit and turned off the dealer’s diagnostic equipment, others decided not to get into the heat. Calm and polite, not particularly on duty and under the guise of a cannonade, BMW brought spare parts to Russia, carried out maintenance and warranty work. After waiting for the right moment, the Russian office of the Bavarians announced: the delivery of spare parts has been established, all cars produced for Russia are still under warranty. Despite the limited availability of some spare parts, customers receive the full range of necessary services, as well as the usual high level of service. However!

This news looks unexpected, if you do not read it after another, much less optimistic: cars made for the Russian market in German factories cannot be sold in the Old World itself. The fact is that the domestic buyer preferred much richer equipment and a wide variety of options than the Europeans. The cars assembled for the Russians turned out to be simply too expensive for the inhabitants of the most developed and liberal part of the country.

And at this point, after prolonged applause and laughter, we should conclude: yes, few cars were sold in Russia, not like Europe or America with China, but each of them brought much more hard currency to the manufacturer’s treasury than is common in the ‘enlightened world’. That is, the Russian segment sold less and earned more. Unexpected?

Behind the low-priority buzzwords were huge profits, which now had to be abandoned. Compensate? Will they allocate? Will they block? Judging by the statement of BMW’s Russian office, there is little hope for such an outcome. Or actually not at all. So – a false start, dear Mercedes, a false start.
