How insurers force many drivers to drive without OSAGO
Insurance companies and their lobbyists have single-handedly created another problem in OSAGO. The ever-increasing “expansion of the fare corridor” turns novice motorists into unwilling offenders. Portal “AutoVzglyad” explains why.

The Central Bank regularly allows them “at the request of the broad masses of insurance industry workers” to sell OSAGO at ever-increasing prices. If anyone doesn’t know, we call this process “extension of the tariff corridor” for some reason. The talking heads of the Russian insurance company’s lobbyists tell us that as a result, normal drivers pay less for OSAGO and emergency workers more. The scheme looks nice and elegant. But only until you look at the details. The devil in this case is the cost of the policy for a novice driver with less than three years of experience. For him, when calculating the price of the policy, there is a multiplier of 1.8.

Very often a young driver tries to insure his first car – an old wreck. A kind of “farmer” of the domestic auto industry. Or a 30-year-old right-hand drive car. Something in the budget of 50,000-100,000 rubles. Here is a typical situation: a young man 20 years old, driving experience – zero, in the hands of STS on something like a LADA Priora or an old VW Polo. In regions and republics where there is no particularly high “territorial coefficient” for calculating the cost of OSAGO, the insurer will “roll out” a policy for such a car owner at a level of more than 30,000 rubles. And in Moscow or Voronezh exactly the same contract can cost 40,000 rubles. Almost the price of an insured car!

The same applies to accident drivers. The ASN publication in its recent publication cited as an example the case of one of the car owners in St. Petersburg with a driving experience of one year. He owns a VW Passat with a 1.8 liter engine with a capacity of 170 hp. Of. – machine from the early 2000s. The man has already had two accidents. So, in August 2022, they were ready to sell him an OSAGO policy for 98,000 rubles – already a good amount! And literally a month later, after another “extension of the tariff corridor” by the Central Bank, he was offered to buy the same policy for 123,000 rubles.

For reference: such a Passat can be bought with 300,000-350,000 rubles in your pocket. And then give almost half the cost of the car just for the compulsory insurance! Remember that now all insurers are trying by all means and lies not to repair the cars of affected customers, but to pay OSAGO in cash. That gives them the opportunity to save about 50% on payments to victims – taking advantage of a loophole with the “wear and tear” of t/s. After all, not for nothing, with spare parts increasing in price several times in 2022, insurance companies reported on compensation to victims at the level of “cheap” 2021.

That is, insurers offer our young driver to buy OSAGO practically for the price of a car, and in this case our hero will not receive money, but “tears” within this system (as a victim). Which is clearly not enough to fix the fringed “swallow”. And a reasonable question arises for a young driver: why do I need all that OSAGO at all? To just give a bunch of money to some unknown uncles? To hell with that policy of yours, I’ll do without, he decides. And what remains for him: to put the car on a joke and wait for his “rights” to be fulfilled at least in 3 years, and because of this the insurance will drop in price at least a little?

No, everything is clear: those who are more dangerous on the road must pay more for their risk. But it turns out that a person (a novice driver) buys an OSAGO policy almost at the price of Casco insurance. And for this money, in fact, he receives only one lack of claims from the traffic police patrol. Does anyone really think such a design can function effectively?
