Why the Russians began to abandon Japanese cars en masse
The secondary market is once again in for a surprise. The reason for this is the never-ending crisis, the end of which is not and apparently will not be. At least in the short term. If earlier “Japanese” were actively bought on the “secondary”, now they are no less active from it. Why – discovered the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

Among foreign cars in the used car segment, the leadership was taken by models of Japanese brands, which took the palm of handicrafts from the Russian auto industry. As Avito Auto analysts told the AvtoVzglyad portal, compared to last year, the share of domestic brands fell by 4.5%, but on the other hand, the supply for the Japanese increased by 1% and almost 3% for the Germans . By the way, the models of German manufacturers took the third position in the “hit parade” of cars, mostly sold, but not sold on the “secondary”.

For example, in the period from January 1 to February 19, 2023, the share of Japanese cars that their owners wanted to get rid of was 23%. Products from Germany occupy 18.9% of the sector, ahead of “Americans” with 8.3% and “Koreans” – 8%. Why did our compatriots begin to sell their favorite foreign cars en masse?

First of all, due to the fact that the main Japanese players simply “threw” both dealers and consumers, leaving only memories and tears of bitterness about themselves. The once bestseller among brands from the Land of the Rising Sun in the face of the hitherto unsinkable Toyota waved his pen at us with impunity.

The company not only abolished the Russian office, “frozen” the factory and the shipment of cars, but also, passionately waving to the collective West, refused to provide original spare parts. Although once representatives of a reputable brand shouted that they would not let their customers down, they continue to service their vehicles on the basis of branded dealerships, which, by the way, are closing one after another or are beginning to reorient themselves to cooperate with other brands.

How do you fix your favorite Toyota when you have to wait months for parts? Moreover, and overpay for them at exorbitant prices! Judge for yourself: 180,000 rubles for brake pads and discs for the self-proclaimed premium Toyota Camry! It’s scary to imagine how they tear up the owners of expensive Krusacks. However, there is always an alternative. That’s right – not original. But it has yet to be obtained, and preferably from Japan, because Chinese counterparts sometimes “die” before they can be installed.

There is no one else to complain about angry dealers, as, in fact, about problems with cars – the rotten remnants of an official representation, if they help you, then only with a prayer. A separate item should be noted the absence of body panels – even the insurers themselves cannot solve the problem with their replacement in the context of insured events. The latter, by the way, offer to repair emergency vehicles with “second-hand” parts, of which there are still enough “car dismantling”. Imagine mechanics putting an old spare part in your brand new Toyota! But that is not everything…

Of course the guarantee is also true, but it will not be forgotten slowly. Even now, in a number of cases, dealers brutally and unceremoniously refuse the warranty obligations that were once assigned to them. Complain to the court? Forward and, as they say, with a song! Yes, only the retailer has time to go bankrupt or change legal entities. Meanwhile, you wander through the authorities, the car stationary in the street just rotting away. This is the hard truth of life. And this applies not only to Toyota, but also to Nissan, Infiniti and the like Mazda.

It is gratifying that at least Suzuki together with Subaru, which monitors the development of events from the outside, continues to quietly service cars sold in Russia. Maybe that’s why car owners dispose of models of these brands much less often than others?
