Turned on the back: the EU slowed down with a ban on cars with internal combustion engines

The decision to effectively ban combustion engine cars in Europe by 2035, which seemed inevitable last week, suddenly “hung in the air”. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” reports on curious upheavals in the labyrinths of European power.

– The Committee of Deputy Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper I) has decided to postpone the final vote on the 2035 emissions target for the automotive industry from 7 March to a later Council meeting. Coreper I will return to this issue in due course, said committee spokesman Daniel Holmberg.

Recall that we are talking about the plans of the Brussels bureaucrats to pass a law that effectively prohibits the introduction of new passenger cars with internal combustion engines on the roads of the European Union from 2035.

Surprisingly, against the background of the general European obsession with carbon neutrality, Germany, Italy, Poland and Bulgaria spoke out against a number of provisions of the disputed law. The Germans, in particular, are demanding that the future ban not apply to cars with internal combustion engines that run on synthetic fuel. Italian officials emphasize that total electric mobility should not be the only way to achieve zero emissions on the continent.
