Autoshazam: Russian drivers can track down car breakdowns using a smartphone

A mobile application will be launched in Russia this year that will enable drivers to quickly identify vehicle malfunctions. Autoshazam will be free: the software will be developed for both the iOS operating system and the Android stuff.

The new service, analogous to the world-famous Shazam application for caller ID, will determine the problems of cars based on sounds. For example, according to the developers, representatives of the Simble company, Autoshazam will be able to detect malfunctions of the turbine, valves, drive belt, cooling system, crank mechanism. The user only needs to enter the mileage, age and VIN number of the car and then press the button.

Of course, you still need to visit a car service and do a full diagnosis if something happened to the car. Autoshazam will only save the user from wandering forums on the Internet – it will quickly tell you what the problem may be and assess the degree of complexity of the solution. And that is very approximate. In general, the project is interesting, but it is premature to say that it will greatly facilitate the lives of car owners.

It remains only to add that the mobile application is still being worked on: for example, the sounds of possible problems have yet to be moderated by car manufacturers. But before the end of the year, as our TASS colleagues at NTI Autonet were told, the software will already be “rolled out”. It will most likely be free. And according to the developers, about 500,000 people will use the service annually.
