New Year’s traditions: from January 1, car inspections will become more expensive again

According to the FAS order, regional governments must set new rates for technical inspections by December 20. And judging by the documents published by the authorities, most Russian regions will increase the maintenance price for passenger cars (vehicle category M1) by 12% – from 913 to 1022 rubles.

As Kommersant reports, the most expensive technical inspection will take place in Chukotka – the price will increase from 4,100 to 4,500 rubles. In St. Petersburg, the procedure will increase in price from 1,540 to 1,720 rubles, in the Amur region – from 1,400 to 1,570 rubles. And the cheapest technical inspection will take place in the Ivanovo region (the price will increase from 586 to 913 rubles) and the Volgograd region (from 576 to 913 rubles).

The annual increase in maintenance costs is provided from 2022 by the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the associated methodology. Regions are obliged to request information from operators about their costs and to calculate a certain “economically responsible” rate annually. If fewer than 50% of local companies send data, officials index the rates themselves.

This is actually what is happening: the FAS confirmed that in most regions prices were increased using the “indexation method”. Market participants note that not all expenditure by operators can be documented and submitted to officials for justification. In addition, many industry representatives are considering “whether to stop this type of activity”, since the tax on points does not exceed 15-20%.
